Robbery
Robbery or stealing from the person is committed by someone who uses violence to take someone’s property and the aggravating lying in the fact that force is used or threatened to cause the victim to part with the property.
The basic offence of robbery is punishable with a maximum of 14 years imprisonment. Aggravating factors include if the crime was committed in the company of another person.
The seriousness of the robbery charge often results in problems with bail applications. Other problems include unreliable identification of the accused and the delay between the reporting of the alleged offence and arrest.
